Honda's redesigned SUV is on a roll. On the heels of the 2016 Pilot being named a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the three-row SUV got five stars in its crash tests, the agency's highest rating.

The 2016 Pilot's overall five-star rating is comprised of a four-star rating in front and rollover crashes and a five-star side crash test score. The previous-generation Pilot got an overall score of only four stars. NHTSA notes that the new model also offers what it calls "recommended technologies," like a forward collision warning and lane departure warning systems.
Competitors like the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse and 2016 Toyota Highlander also earned a five-star rating from NHTSA. Others like the 2015 Dodge Durango and 2015 Mazda CX-9 earned only four stars.
