CARS.COM — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles denies charges that it paid off dealers to falsify monthly car sales in order to inflate its numbers. A suburban-Chicago-based dealership group this week filed a lawsuit against the automaker in federal court, alleging that FCA "knowingly endorses and encourages" false reporting of sales, and rewards its local managers with monetary bonuses for doing so, The Detroit News has reported.

FCA said in a statement that the plaintiffs had not responded to requests to provide evidence to substantiate their claims. The automaker called the allegations baseless. "This lawsuit is nothing more than the product of two disgruntled dealers who have failed to perform their obligations under the dealer agreements they signed with FCA US," the automaker said in the statement.
