CARS.COM — On a day when gas prices reached $1.70 a gallon — a February low not seen in a dozen years — it should come as no surprise that automakers are putting SUVs and pickup trucks front and center. On the first day of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, where our news team is onsite bringing you coverage live from the exhibit floor, about two-thirds of the debuts Cars.com covered were SUVs.

New utes at the show include updated-for-2017 versions of the Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Armada, and Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. That's in addition to Ford's BraunAbility MXV, positioned as the first mass-produced wheelchair-accessible SUV. Heck, even the fuel sippers are SUVs, namely the all-new 2017 Kia Niro, which joined the latest versions of the 2017 Kia Optima Plug-in and Hybrid in the eco-friendly echelon.
The new 2017 Camaro 1LE Performance Package rounds out the debuts of the day. We'll return Friday with much more, so keep checking back.
