Report: McLaren P1 Successor Could go All-Electric

The successor to the McLaren P1 plug-in hybrid supercar could be a full on electric vehicle, Auto Express reports. The latest development follows the recent announcement of the automaker’s “Track22” business plan, which mentioned electric prototypes were in development.

McLaren’s Mike Flewitt indicated to Auto Express that the automaker is evaluating an all-electric powertrain for a “future generation of an Ultimate Series car.” That car could be the successor to the McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar.

As previously reported, the automaker will develop 15 all-new or derivative models under the new Track22 plan. That includes models under its upcoming “LT” sub-brand, which follows the popularity of the limited-production 675LT coupe and spider models.

Additionally, the automaker will also develop new powertrains under the Track22 plan, including both traditional gas-powered and hybrid powertrains. Auto Express suggests the automaker’s current twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8 will not be phased out anytime soon.
