Pascal Wehrlein Unhurt After Violent Crash During Race of Champions

During this year’s running of the popular Race of Champions, F1 driver Pascal Wehrlein flipped his ROC-spec Polaris Slingshot, inflicting no serious injury but causing Wehrlein to drop out of the impending Nations Cup race that follows the ROC.

Moments before the flip, Wehrlein was vying for position against F1 driver Felipe Massa, only losing control when Wehrlein’s Slingshot smacked into a barrier. Wehrlein was forced into Massa’s car, causing the three-wheeler to flip, coming to a sudden stop atop a concrete retaining barrier.

Luckily, neither driver was seriously injured. Despite a lack of injury, doctors suggested Wehrlein skip the following Nations Cup race. “I’m very sorry to withdraw from today’s ROC Nations Cup,” said Wehrlein in a statement. “I’d really like to race again and I feel fine, but the doctors have advised me to rest so of course I will take their advice.”

F1 champion Sebastian Vettel, Wehrlein’s teammate for Nations Cup, went on to compete without the young German, claiming his seventh overall win. This was his first win without longtime event teammate Michael Schumacher.
