Dodge is slowly and painfully eking out more information on the new Demon before it debuts next month. In its eleventh teaser, Dodge reveals that the Hellcat on steroids will feature the world’s first factory application of TransBrake for a production car.
According to Dodge, TransBrake will allow the Demon to achieve launch forces previously unattainable by street legal production cars. It locks the output shaft of the automatic transmission to keep the car stationary until it’s ready to go. Instead of launching the vehicle with one foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator, drivers can simply use the steering wheel paddle shifters, a method that’s said to improve reaction times 30 percent over foot-brake launches. Working in tandem with Torque Reserve, TransBrake ensures brake-free launches up to 2,350 rpm, improves launch boost pressures by 105 percent, and increases engine launch torque by 120 percent.
The feature includes a driveline preload process to make sure engine torque is applied through the entire driveline all the way to the rear wheels. Not only does this allow for full engine torque delivery, but it also prevents damage by decreasing component spike loads.
After eleven teaser videos, we now know the Demon will receive many features that have never before been available straight from the factory on a production car. Along with TransBrake, the Demon is also the first to receive drag radials and an after-run chiller from the factory.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be unveiled on April 11 ahead of the New York auto show.
