Hosts Jonny Lieberman and Jason Cammisa compare two of the best small sport sedans: the 2017 Jaguar XE 35t and the new 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43. Last time, the exhilarating Jaguar XE S (the original name of the 35t) knocked the crown off the BMW 335i M Sport, becoming the new king of compact premium sport sedans. This time, Mercedes-AMG hopes to take the title away from the British marque.
The Jaguar’s supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 is rated at 340 hp while the C43’s twin-turbo V-6 churns out more power at 362 hp. Weighing in at 3,913 pounds, the rear-wheel-drive XE 35t is slightly heavier than the 3,875-pound all-wheel-drive AMG. Acceleration is close, but the extra traction and power help the AMG C43 hit 60 mph in a hasty 4.2 seconds, quicker than the Jaguar’s 4.6 seconds.
The video starts off with some autocross fun, and Jonny somehow gets a time of 42 minutes and 14 seconds by hitting the most cones. The hosts then poke fun at the vehicle names as they try to explain how the AMG C43 was called the C450 4Matic AMG Sport last year and why the Jaguar is named 35t even though it’s a 3.0-liter engine and it’s supercharged, not turbocharged.
As the hosts take both sedans through some very twisty back roads, the better one starts to shine. As the hosts explain, the Jaguar XE 35t does one thing extremely well: it’s an incredible driver’s car, a back road thrill machine with a very impressive chassis, and one of the best in the business. On the other hand, the Mercedes is fast, handles very well, and is a blast to drive. Additionally, the sedan has a high-quality interior, roomy back seats, and loads of luxury.
Watch the episode below to find out if the hosts pick the thrilling canyon carving Jaguar XE 35t or the luxuriously fast Mercedes-AMG C43.
