Ford unveiled another racing variant for the Mustang. Making its debut today at the 2016 SEMA show is the Ford Mustang GT4 race car, which the automaker says is based on the Shelby GT350 R-C Mustang racer—that car has just completed its first year of racing in a number of North American series (under Multimatic Motorsports) with a few podium finishes under its belt.
That said, the Mustang GT4 will be eligible to race in series around the world including the European GT4 and Pirelli World Challenge. Power comes from a 5.2-liter V-8; though Ford doesn’t say how much power the engine makes, the eight-cylinder mill is tuned to produce 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque in the production GT350 and GT350R. Shifting is done via a six-speed sequential gearbox (the GT350 R-C has a six-speed manual).
Other mods featured in the Mustang GT4 include a fixed rear spoiler, rear diffuser, roll cage, and a suspension tuned by Multimatic Motorsports.
Ford Performance App
Ford also took the opportunity to show off its upcoming Ford Performance App, which allows owners to geek out on their track day data. The smartphone-based app links with the Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system to log performance data and timing stats, and uses the phone’s camera to record video. Ford says the app will launch with the Ford GT before trickling down to other models.
