Decades are measured by calendars, yet the eras they represent do not always fit neatly in the small boxes. Cultural historians, for example, usually peg the end of the 1960s at the infamous December 1969 Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Speedway, during which a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, acting as security, stabbed and killed a pistol-wielding member of the audience.
