Powered by an electricity-generating hydrogen fuel cell, the 2016 Toyota Mirai has just received an EPA-rated range of 312 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. The 300-plus mile range is a tad more than Toyota claimed when it introduced the Mirai. At 312 miles, Toyota says the Mirai is the only zero-emission electric vehicle to top the 300-mile range. Honda's 2014 FCX Clarity managed an EPA-rated range of 231 miles and 59 mpg-e combined when it was available for lease, and the 2016 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell SUV has a range of 265 miles and a 50 mpg-e combined rating. The Mirai will be available for lease ($499 per month for 36 months with $3,649 due at lease signing) or purchase ($58,325 including destination but not including available state or federal tax incentives) starting this fall in California where three of the state's active hydrogen refueling stations will be open to the public by the end of 2015. Interested customers can request a Mirai this summer by visiting the Mirai mini site, here.
