The Redesigned 2018 BMW M5 Starts at $103,595

BMW announced the starting price for the redesigned 2018 BMW M5 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Breaching the six-figure mark, the powerful M5 will start at $103,595. That’s just under the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S sedan’s starting price of $105,395 and well above the Cadillac CTS-V’s base price of $87,490.

The sixth-generation M5 will be the first M5 to feature BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, and fortunately for enthusiasts, the system has a two-wheel-drive mode. Under the hood is 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 churning out an impressive 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque and backed by an eight-speed automatic. That’s close to the E63 S’ 603 hp and 627 lb-ft produced from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 but less than the Cadillac CTS-V, which makes 640 hp and 630 lb-ft from its 6.2-liter supercharged V-8.

BMW claims the 2018 M5 is the quickest M vehicle to date, hitting 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and finishing the quarter mile in 11.1 seconds. Also impressive is the claimed 189-mph top speed with the optional M Driver’s package. That tops the V-12-powered M760i, which hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds in Motor Trend testing, making it the quickest BMW sedan we have ever tested.

The M5 comes standard with M compound brakes with blue six-piston front calipers and is available with M carbon-ceramic brakes with gold-painted calipers and larger front rotors. Helping keep the weight off is a carbon fiber reinforced polymer roof and a lightweight exhaust system.

Expect to see the 2018 BMW M5 on showroom floors in the spring of 2018.
