The latest episode of Head 2 Head pits two of the world’s best super sedans against each other, the 2017 Cadillac CTS-V and the the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S. Hosts Jonny Lieberman and Jethro Bovingdon take both cars out to the track and onto Angeles Crest Highway to find out which is more fun.
At the test track, both hosts discovered that the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S and 2017 Cadillac CTS-V were willing to drift. On the figure-eight course and drag strip, the Mercedes had better grip and acceleration than the Cadillac but lost to the CTS-V in terms of braking.
On the road, however, the Cadillac CTS-V impressed with its handling but its transmission and interior were its weak points because the eight-speed wasn’t as quick as the new nine-speed unit in the Mercedes-AMG E63 S and the quality of the cabin isn’t up to par with the Mercedes. The Mercedes, on the other hand, impressed with its explosive acceleration and handling that eviscerates the road with brute force. However, its brakes aren’t consistent, which means it’s not as confidence-inspiring as the Cadillac.
On the race track, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S was found to be too soft for track use and its weight also hindered it. The Cadillac CTS-V proved balanced and responsive but its slow-responding transmission hurt it on the track.
