The current-generation Honda Fit debuted for the 2015 model year, and it received a mild refresh for 2018. That means we’re still a few years off from a completely new version. Although we might not see a new Fit before 2020, Honda is getting ready, even testing a prototype on public roads.
Despite the heavy camouflage, we can tell the prototype features a very different shape than the current model. Instead of pointing out sharply, the nose takes on a flatter appearance. In the rear, it looks like the taillights have changed, taking on a more horizontal orientation. This detail could easily change as the model moves closer to production, however. What’s even more intriguing is that the rear end appears to stand more upright than the one on the current vehicle.
Honda hasn’t released any details about the upcoming fourth-generation Fit, or the Jazz as it’s called in some markets. Of course, we expect an efficient gas engine, but word has it that Honda is also planning a new electric vehicle based on the Fit. According to Japanese newspaper The Nikkei, the vehicle will debut in China and other markets by the first half of 2020, although we don’t know whether or not it’ll make its way to the U.S.
