Spied! BMW 3 Series Wagon Looks Nearly Ready for its Debut

The last time we spotted the next-gen 3 Series wagon, it was completely covered in camouflage. Since then, the new 3 Series sedan has debuted, and there’s little point in hiding the front end of the upcoming wagon which looks exactly the same. Now, our spy photographers have caught the 3 Series wagon again, this time covering just its rear.

The 3 Series wagons being transported via carrier are looking long and low. The red model features silver wheels, while the black one sports black wheels. Both sets of wheels look different than the ones on the earlier prototype we saw.

In addition to a nicely sloped roofline, the new wagon has a sleek-looking rear end with a raked rear window. Like on the 3 Series sedan, the taillights have become narrower.

Expect the 3 Series wagon to borrow engines from the sedan. BMW hasn’t confirmed it will keep offering the wagon in the U.S., but if it does, we can expect potent gas engines. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four inside the new 330i sedan makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. An M340i model pumps out 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque from an updated turbocharged six-cylinder. Both engines come paired to an eight-speed automatic. It’s unclear if BMW will offer an M3 version of the wagon, but we can dream.
