Kia is on a roll with its exterior designs lately. From the sleek, premium brand-rivaling Stinger to the rugged-looking Telluride, Kia has made a name for itself in the design world. Now, the Korean brand is looking to apply its unique touch to electric vehicles. Kia has teased an all-electric concept bound for the Geneva motor show, and based on what little we can see, we already want to drive it.
The concept appears to be a low-slung coupe, or possibly a four-door coupe, featuring bulging fenders and a distinctive front end. Kia’s signature “tiger nose” grille shape has been applied to the LED light piping that frames the headlights, which are slender and appear to float within the housings. The Kia logo is heavily stylized, perhaps hinting at an updated badge design in the future. Mounted high on the A-pillars are thin, antenna-like side-view cameras. From this angle it’s hard to say what the rest of the car looks like, but from this front view we can already tell it’s going to be sportier than many other EV concepts we’ve seen.
That’s the idea, according to Kia Motors Europe vice president of design Gregory Guillaume.
“Automotive design is about capturing the heart and making it beat that bit faster for that bit longer—and we believe that there’s absolutely no reason why that should change simply because the car is electric,” said Guillaume in a release.
“We imagined designing an all-electric car that not only answered consumer concerns around range, performance, recharging networks, and driving dynamism, but one that also gave you goose bumps when you looked at it, and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you drove it,” Guillaume continued. “That’s why our all-electric concept is designed to not only get your pulse racing, but to also signpost our holistic and emotional approach to electrification.”
So will the rest of the concept raise our pulse as much as this front end teaser? We can’t wait to find out on March 5 in Geneva.
