Mini has announced pricing for the new, four-door 2016 Clubman, and if you want into the Club, you’re gonna pay. Clubman stickers are not only higher than the four-door Hardtop, but they’re more expensive than those for the Countryman as well.
-The opening gambit for the base, Cooper Clubman is $24,950. That represents a $2400 premium over the four-door Hardtop and $1350 more than the Cooper Countryman.
-The Cooper S Clubman is $28,500. That’s $2550 dearer than a Cooper S four-door hardtop and $1550 over a Cooper S Countryman.
- -Like its siblings, the Cooper Clubman is powered by a 1.5-liter, 134-hp, three-cylinder turbo paired with a six-speed stick with rev-matching functionality. A six-speed automatic is optional. The Cooper S Clubman shares its powertrain with the other Cooper S Minis, that being a 189-hp, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo, mated to the same six-speed manual. An automatic is optional here, too, but it’s an eight-speed unit. Like the Hardtop—but unlike the Countryman—the Clubman is front-wheel-drive only, although we’ve been told it can accommodate the addition of all-wheel drive at a later date.

Maybe Mini is pricing it by the square inch. The new Clubman is the largest Mini—longer even than the Countryman crossover SUV (by 6.1 inches), wider by half an inch, and sitting astride a larger wheelbase (105.1 inches). Or maybe the premium is due to door count. Not only does the new model have four regular doors (the last one had two conventional doors plus a half-sized, rear-hinged door on the passenger side) but it also returns with the twin “barn doors” to access the cargo hold. We’ll see how many buyers want to be a part of the Club when the model reaches Mini dealerships in January.
