New Volvo XC60 Teased on Social Media

Volvo hasn’t fully redesigned the XC60 since it debuted for the 2009 model year, and needless to say, the compact crossover is becoming a bit long in the tooth. But a new version is on the horizon, judging from this photo released by Volvo.

Volvo teased the front face of the new XC60 on Facebook recently. The caption reads “March 7, 2017,” hinting at a Geneva auto show debut.

The model features unique headlights that look quite different from those of its Volvo stablemates. The headlamps are attached to the grille at a narrow opening before becoming bigger as they move out toward the shoulders. The car makes use of the “Thor’s Hammer” lighting signature created by Volvo.

Currently, the Volvo XC60 sold in the U.S. comes with the choice of a 2.0-liter turbo-four producing 240 hp or a 2.0-liter twin-charged four-cylinder with 302 hp. These are the only engine options thanks to a 2017 model-year update, which killed off Volvo’s old five-cylinder. The next XC60 is expected to ride on a shortened version of the SPA platform that underpins the XC90 and S90. Buyers should again be able to choose between front- and all-wheel drive.

The new XC60 will join the larger XC90 in Volvo’s overhauled crossover lineup. An XC40 is expected to arrive soon as the first model in the automaker’s new “40” series group of vehicles.
