Acura premiered a prototype of the upcoming TLX-L at the 2017 Shanghai auto show, shortly after unveiling the facelifted 2018 TLX in New York. The long-wheelbase variant of the TLX will go on sale in China this year, though Acura did not provide information for how extended the wheelbase is or how much extra legroom will be available.
The luxury brand says this variant should deliver additional comfort and space for rear passengers while maintaining the performance characteristics of the shorter version.
Rear seat space is an important feature to prospective buyers in China and the new TLX-L will be built locally for the Chinese market. It will be the second Acura model to be manufactured in China after the compact CDX crossover.
“We will further strengthen all aspects of Acura business in China including production, sales and service, so that as many customers as possible know and experience ‘The Performance’ unique to Acura,” Toshihiko Sato, president of GAC Honda Automobile said in a release.
As is the case with the CDX, Acura has no plans to sell the TLX-L outside of China.
