Harman Debuts Digital Cockpit Concept at CES

Harman is best known for its variety of premium audio brands, with some of the most advanced automotive sound systems on the market. With help from its new owner, Samsung, the company is going beyond audio and has unveiled its new Digital Cockpit platform at CES, a flexible and scalable multi-display interior made for a connected lifestyle.

Available in standard and premium configurations, the platform can integrate the instrument cluster with the center console and steering wheel controls into a single center screen that displays all important vehicle information and features.

The Digital Cockpit can incorporate any devices that are a part of the driver’s connected lifestyle. Using Harman’s Ignite Platform, the user experience can be personalized through virtual personal assistants, portable profiles, augmented reality, and more. In the future world of shared mobility, this is intended to make drivers feel like the car is theirs. Additionally, the Android OS can be integrated on four different screens.

The system can also automatically access subscription services through the driver’s smartphone and use the Bixby virtual personal assistant that can take commands through voice, touch, gesture, and context-based triggers.

The Digital Cockpit is scalable and will be made available for every automotive segment. Harman and Samsung are also developing an in-car 5G connectivity system and multi-band antenna for fast and reliable data communication.
