2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Gets a New Dual-Snorkel Hood

The current Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat already has a hood scoop any performance car would be proud to have. But just like with ice cream, why stop with one scoop when you can have two? When the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat arrives this summer, it’ll come with a rad dual-snorkel intake hood.

In a short and sweet press release, Dodge says the new hood “pays homage to the distinctive Mopar design themes from some of [the brand’s] most famous muscle cars.” The release goes on to say the hood “harkens back to the mid-’60s and early-’70s, but with a modern interpretation that looks even more sinister and provides maximum air intake to the supercharged powerplant.” We can’t put our finger on exactly which muscle cars inspired the Hellcat’s new twin-nostril hood, but we like the look. It’s also difficult to tell from these teaser images how large the intake openings are, but with two of them combined, they could come close to–or even surpass– the 42.5 square inches of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s scoop, the largest production hood scoop ever.

Other than announce the new hood design, the release doesn’t tell us much. Will the 2019 Challenger Hellcat continue to offer 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8? The engine is likely to carry over, but with the Demon now out of production, perhaps some of its tech will trickle down to the Hellcat’s V-8 to boost power. We’ll learn more this summer as we get closer to the 2019 Challenger Hellcat’s arrival. Stay tuned.
