Bentley, Lamborghini, and Maserati have introduced SUVs, and now it’s finally time for Rolls-Royce to join the party. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan will debut this week on May 10.
To give us a taste of what’s to come, Rolls-Royce has teased one of the vehicle’s taillights, and it looks quite different from those on the new Phantom. The Cullinan’s taillights take on a squarer shape, and there appears to be quite a bit of blank space in the housing. Rolls-Royce also integrated its logo into the design in an interesting way.
Rolls-Royce isn’t calling it an SUV, preferring the term “high-bodied car.” But it’s expected to have all-terrain capabilities that will help it compete with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga. On its YouTube page, Rolls-Royce has been taking a camouflaged Cullinan off-road across Scotland, the United Arab Emirates, and the U.S. in a new video series.
Under the sheetmetal, the Cullinan will use the same aluminum-intensive platform that underpins the Phantom and will underpin all future Rolls-Royce cars. Although the automaker hasn’t announced powertrain specs, the vehicle is likely to get a version of the Phantom’s 6.6-liter twin-turbo V-12. Deliveries should begin in 2019.
The Cullinan will be revealed online this Thursday at 12:00 p.m. British Summer Time, which is 4:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
