We’ve been hearing for quite some time now that Porsche has been considering the addition of a Cayenne coupe to its lineup. And these latest pics from our spy photographers tell us that Porsche is taking this idea very seriously.
We spotted one of the first prototypes of the Porsche Cayenne coupe out testing recently. Because it’s not wearing camouflage, we can clearly see the model’s lower roofline. This prototype isn’t ready for prime time, though, since some features including the taillights don’t look up to production spec. We think it makes sense that the final model will receive narrow, full-width taillights like the ones on the standard Cayenne instead of the chunky ones we see here. A retractable spoiler should help improve aerodynamics.
The coupe should look very similar to the standard Cayenne except for the new roof design. The same is true of the interior. Inside the cabin, we can see the layout resembles that of the standard Cayenne. Our spy photographers said the prototype was a four-seater, although it’s unclear how many seats the final version will have.
According to a recent report from Autocar, the Porsche Cayenne coupe could go on sale as early as next year. At that time, it will compete with the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Rumored engines include a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 440 hp and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 good for 550 ponies.
