Watch: How to Use Ford’s Line Lock to Turn the Ultimate Mustang Burnout

There aren’t many automakers that encourage doing burnouts in their products—mainly due to liability concerns—but Ford is one company that doesn’t shy away from the subject. For proof of this, look no further than the 2018 Ford Mustang lineup, where you’ll find the tire-burning Line Lock feature standard on every model. In this video, Motor Trend features editor Scott Evans shows you just how easy it is to light up the Mustang’s rear tires.

First introduced in 2015 on the Mustang GT, and later on the GT350, the Line Lock feature holds the front brakes for up to 15 seconds to allow the rear tires to spin in place. The idea is to give drivers a convenient way to warm up their tires before making a pass on the drag strip, and Ford makes that intention clear with a big red “track use only” warning in the gauge cluster when Line Lock is engaged. But even with that disclaimer, we think it’s pretty great that a company would offer what is essentially a burnout mode in a road-going vehicle. Watch the video above to learn exactly how to use it on the 2018 Ford Mustang.
