CARS.COM — Our long-term 2015 Honda Fit recently visited the dealership for a service bulletin repair to replace four door handle brackets susceptible to corrosion. All 2015 Honda Fits are included in service bulletin No. 15-088 regarding "outer handle corrosion," Honda spokesman Chris Martin said in an email. Honda is replacing the non-galvanized door handle inside each door with corrosion-resistance brackets. The update isn't a safety recall considering there's no safety concern, and Honda will perform the fix for free.

Our Fit's four door handle brackets accumulated noticeable corrosion after just 11,770 miles; for the most part, it's parked outside. If left uncorrected, the rusting can potentially transfer to the door panel's exterior, which itself can deteriorate over time, Martin said.
Honda's letter explaining the fix said the repair takes around 90 minutes, and the automaker recommended dropping the car off in case extended repairs are needed from excessive corrosion.
