After what may have felt like an eternity (Episode 47 dropped on January 22nd) Roadkill is back! On this episode of Roadkill David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan welcome a new member to the Roadkill garage: Harry Tow, a 1971 Ford Crew Cab 4×4 tow truck. They travel to Colorado and learn all about Harry Tow (just Harry for short), which turns out to be a bit better than the two are used to.
The previous owner’s grandfather (the “Harry” from the side of the truck) wanted a four-wheel drive tow truck when he moved to Colorado, but didn’t let the fact that in 1971 a Crew Cab Ford didn’t come with four-wheel drive: he converted it over with spare four-wheel drive parts. After that he custom made the tow setup, which the previous owner promises is fully functional. The duo puts that to the test later in the episode. They plan to town Pigpen, the 1950 GMC Pickup they rescued from a junkyard in Episode 31, from a friend’s house back to Roadkill HQ.
Nothing ever goes as planned, especially on Roadkill, so the duo must contend with a massive snowstorm as they try to get from Colorado to Flagstaff, Arizona. The newest member to the fleet isn’t totally without quirks, but Harry turns out to be one of the most reliable vehicles they’re ever gotten on the show. When the finally get to Flagstaff, and Pigpen, they find out what was really wrong with the old GMC.
If you think things are going a little too smoothly for Roadkill then you’d be right, so naturally they come across a potentially dangerous condition concerning the tow bar mounting points on Harry. If they lift Pigpen and attempt any kind of speed the cracked mounting plates could break, sending the older truck crashing into the back of Harry Tow. They decide that they need to re-weld the plate onto the back of the tow truck, but all they have access to is 110 Volt power, which isn’t typically enough to weld as thick of metal as they intend to weld.
Watch Episode 48 of Roadkill to find out what happens, how they fix Harry, and if they get Pigpen back to Los Angeles in one piece.
