Fiat has announced pricing for the 2017 124 Spider, which starts at $25,990 including destination charge for the base Classica trim level with the standard six-speed manual gearbox. The mid-level Lusso grade is priced from $28,490 while the range-topping Abarth starts at $29,190. Adding the optional six-speed automatic transmission costs an extra $1,350 on all trim levels.
Powering the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is a 1.4-liter turbo-four with FCA’s Multiair valve timing system that produces 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque in the Classica and Lusso models. The 124 Spider Abarth uses the same engine with a slight power increase to 165 hp, though torque remains unchanged. EPA fuel economy ratings are 26/35 mpg city/highway for the manual and 25/36 mpg with the automatic.
Standard equipment on the Classica trim includes 16-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips, cloth upholstery, halogen headlights, LED taillights, and body-colored side sills and door handles. Stepping up to the Lusso grade adds 17-inch alloy wheels, silver A-pillars and roll bar covers, chrome dual exhausts, leather upholstery in black or Saddle, and piano black accents throughout the interior. The range-topping Abarth brings a host of performance upgrades including a mechanical limited-slip differential, Bilstein shocks, a front strut tower bar, 17-inch Gun Metal alloy wheels, a Sport mode selector, and a sport-tuned quad exhaust system.
Options include blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert; a rearview camera; a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Pandora, Stitcher, and Aha; heated seats, and a nine-speaker Bose audio system with headrest-mounted speakers. Brembo brakes and Recaro sport seats are available exclusively as optional extras on the Abarth trim.
The limited-edition 124 Prima Edizione will come standard with commemorative badges and individual numbering, Saddle leather upholstery, and an exclusive Azzuro Italia (Blue) exterior paint. Prima Edizione buyers will also get extra goodies such as a matching blue leather bag, a journal with a pen, and a poster that shows the original illustrations with the car’s dimensions. Only 124 Prima Edizione variants will be made and they are priced starting at $35,995.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the car on which the 2017 124 Spider is based, is $340 cheaper when the base trim levels of both vehicles are compared. However, the 124 Spider Abarth is $245 cheaper than the MX-5 Miata Club while the 124 Spider Lusso is $2,410 less than the range-topping MX-5 Miata Grand Touring.
