CARS.COM — Fiat announced pricing on its 2017 124 Spider, which will arrive in the summer at a starting price of $25,990 (all prices include a $995 destination charge). The rear-wheel-drive convertible two-seater, which is based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster, will be available with a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic for an additional $1,350. A trio of trim levels will be offered: Classica, Lusso and Abarth — with a fourth, Prima Edizione Lusso, available only to the first 124 buyers.

The Classica and Lusso trims both get a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that makes 160 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque, while the Abarth gets a power boost to 165 hp. Fuel economy is EPA-rated at 26/35 mpg city/highway for the manual and 25/36 mpg for the automatic.
The Classica features dual-tip exhaust and black roll-bar finish, along with a body-colored header, side sills and door handles. It also comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, black cloth-covered seats, halogen headlights and LED taillights. Inside, Fiat says, are soft-touch materials with silver accents on the instrument panel. The Classica is available in six colors: Rosso Passione red clear coat, Bianco Gelato white clear coat, Nero Cinema jet black metallic, Grigio Argento gray metallic, Grigio Moda dark gray metallic and Bronzo Magnetico bronze metallic. The Classica starts at $25,990.
The Lusso, or "luxury," model adds standard 17-inch alloy wheels, a silver-painted A-pillar header and a roll-bar cover and dual-tip chrome exhaust. Inside, it gets heated leather seats in black or brown, with leatherette wrapping and piano-black accents around the instrument cluster. The Lusso is available in all of the Classica's colors, plus Bianco Perla crystal white pearl tri-coat. It starts at $28,490.
In addition to the more robust powertrain, the performance-focused Abarth gets a front and rear sport suspension, a Sport Mode selector, a sport-tuned chrome quad-tip exhaust, model-specific lower body elements, 17-inch gun-metal aluminum wheels and exterior accents, as well as an available hand-painted hood stripe, a Brembo braking system and Recaro sport seats. The Abarth is available in five colors: Bianco Gelato, Rosso Passione, Nero Cinema, Grigio Argento and Bianco Perla. It starts at $29,190.
The limited run of the Prima Edizione Lusso trim will cost $35,995, and each car will be individually numbered with a commemorative badge and exclusive Azzurro Italia blue paint job with brown leather seats.
At a starting price less than $26,000 and a shared platform with the MX-5 Miata, the 124 Spider may not just be the Miata's second cousin but also its main competitor. The Miata starts $25,750 and is the only roadster available within $17,000 of that price.
