BMW is forever filling – or creating– automotive niches with new models to keep its clientele satisfied and coming back to their showrooms. The automaker recently revealed the all-new 2018 BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo that occupies a sportier space than the recently discontinued BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Here is a look at the new 6 Series GT’s stlying compared to the outgoing 5 Series GT.
Up front, the new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo’s headlights look more like those on the current 7 Series sedan with squared off LED headlight rings instead of round halos. The lower and wider twin-kidney grille, along with a lower hood and larger lower fascia intakes, gives the new car a more aggressive stance.
Along the side, the 6 Series Gran Turismo’s longer overall length (201.9 inches versus 197.1 inches), lower beltline, shallower greenhouse, and slight ducktail rear lip spoiler give it a lower and sleeker profile. The 5 Series GT’s rear quarter window’s Hofmeister kink has been inverted on the new 6 Series GT. Its ground clearance and overall height give the new car a more car-like and less SUV-like stance.
From the rear three-quarter view, the 6 Series GT’s rear greenhouse looks less bulbous than the bloated 5 Series GT. Though it’s not, the new car’s rear glass almost appears concave compared to the convex rear glass on the outgoing model. The look emphasizes the 6 Series Gran Turismo’s rear lip spoiler.
The new car also looks lower and more car-like from the rear angle. The LED taillights and large trapezoidal exhaust tips give it a more aggressive and sporty look.
Inside, the 6 Series Gran Coupe gets a floating infotainment screen as well as a revised dashboard, center stack, center console, and steering wheel.
