One of exterior designer Ian Cartabiano’s stated aims was to make the various trim levels of Camry distinguishable from one another “from 200 yards away” so that a prospective buyer could easily differentiate between the sporty, luxury, and eco-friendly variants when driving past a dealership. Accomplishing this mission required designing a lot of different parts, but when you’re selling some 400,000 copies, you can afford some complexity. Below is a spotter’s guide to the various trim personalizations:

From the front
Grilles/Fascias: 2018 Camry L and LE
Upper and lower grilles separated by a wide swathe of body color. The lower grille sweeps the full width (LE Hybrid distinguishable by blue highlights around the central Toyota sombrero emblem).

Same as L/LE but with argent metallic horizontal grille bars in lower grille (see above for XLE Hybrid).
Grilles/Fascias: 2018 Camry SE
Upper and lower grilles separated by a narrower swathe of body color, with the lower divided into three segments, the outermost of which seem vaguely Mirai-ish. The grille inserts are flat black (SE Hybrid gets the blue highlighted emblem).

Same as SE but with gloss black sport mesh grille inserts.
