Tesla Cuts the Price of its Most Powerful Models

Tesla’s most powerful and top-of-the-line models are getting a small price drop. The Model S and Model X 100D models had their prices cut by $3,500 while the performance variants, the P100D, received a $5,000 price drop for both the Model S and X.

The electric car maker claims that production costs for the 100-kilowatt battery packs have decreased, and it’s passing along the savings to customers. The new price tag is similar to the prices seen before a price increase on the same models back in April of this year, but the current models offer more features than before.

For those waiting on their undelivered 100 kW models, don’t worry, because Tesla plans to adjust the price to the new rate. Below are the new starting prices:

  • Model S 100D: $94,000
  • Model S P100D: $135,000
  • Model X 100D: $96,000
  • Model S P100D: $140,000

Earlier this year, we saw Tesla drop the prices of base models. In April, with the discontinuation of the base Model S 60, the Model S 75 became the new base model and had its starting price reduced by $7,500. Earlier this month, Tesla lowered the price of the base Model X crossover, the 75D, by $3,000, claiming increased margins.

Tesla’s most powerful model is seriously fast as we saw first hand. This past February, Motor Trend put the fastest model to the test and recorded a new 0-60 mph production car record. The Tesla Model S P100D, very quietly, rocketed its way down the drag strip in an astonishing time of 2.28 seconds.
