Audi A6 Avant is Pure Wagon Ambrosia

Audi recently debuted an eighth generation of its A6 midsize sedan, but what many of us really want is the A6 Avant wagon that was unveiled today. Of course, we won’t hold our breath waiting for it to come to the U.S.

This delectable piece of forbidden fruit has a sloping roofline, low-profile D-pillar, and a roof edge spoiler. Up front, it looks much like the new A6 sedan, with a tall Singleframe grille and large vents. The wagon may look bigger, but it’s really just as long, wide, and tall as the sedan.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find two center screens, one for infotainment and the other for climate control functions. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is available, along with a head-up display that projects key vehicle information on the windshield for the driver’s use. Other features on tap include leather upholstery, open-pore wood, a cabin fragrance feature, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Audi is offering four-and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines, all of which come with a mild hybrid system. The engines come paired to either a seven-speed dual-clutch or an eight-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is available. There are four suspensions to choose from: a standard steel-spring suspension, sport suspension, suspension with shock absorber control, and an adaptive air suspension that also has controlled shock absorbers.

As we recently reported, it’s possible that some kind of Avant model will eventually make its way to the U.S. We sat down with Filip Brabec, Audi of America’s product management boss, who told us the automaker hasn’t ruled out the possibility of selling an RS Avant in the U.S., although for now it’s concentrating on Sportback variants.
