Not only have our spies caught the new BMW 8 Series Coupe, they also captured the drop-top variant out for a spin on the streets of Munich, Germany.
The 8 Series is prepping for its official world premiere, which could happen on June 15 at Le Mans, France ahead of the big annual 24-hour sports car race, according to a new report. The date was leaked in a recent sales bulletin sent to dealers that was posted by a forum member on bimmerpost.com.
These prototypes shed some camouflage, giving us a closer look at deeper and sportier looking front and rear bumpers, U-shaped LED headlights, and a blacked-out shark nose grille.
Around back, the narrow taillights stretch across its wide and shapely rump. They also feature rectangular twin exhaust tips instead of the triangular ones we saw on the 8 Series Coupe Concept that BMW unveiled last May.
BMW’s big two-door cabrio sports a snug black cloth top and a rather small glass rear window. Both cars are likely packing BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine or testing a 3.0-liter inline-six with some form of mild hybrid system.
The coupe has a black hood and is rolling on 21-inch blacked out wheels similar to those on the 8 Series Concept.
Its convertible sibling sports a white hood and has five-star rims with chrome highlights and both cars feature M Sport package brakes with blue calipers peeking through.
We also get a peek inside the coupe’s interior, revealing the steering wheel, digital dash, and iDrive shifter and touch controller. The rest of the cabin is well-cloaked and hidden from view—for now.
