The X7 is coming together quite nicely since BMW first rolled out pre-production testers late last year. The automaker won’t release the final version of its new large SUV until the end of this year, but we already have a decent idea what it will look like thanks to these new spy photos.
New images reveal the model’s interior, which bears a strong resemblance to the cabin of the BMW X7 iPerformance concept. It receives an updated infotainment screen as well as a fully digital instrument cluster, which is running software from the 7 Series in these pics.
Many images also reveal more of the BMW’s front face. Now, there is less camouflage on the lower vents. The slim headlights look like those we’ve seen on previous prototypes, as does the oversized grille. There is evidence BMW is spreading this trend to other models in the lineup, as we saw a similarly large grille on a prototype of the upcoming X5 M.
Unsurprisingly, the three-row BMW X7 looks quite a bit larger than the X5, with a bigger rear overhang and larger rear doors that indicate increased room for passengers. Looking at the back end, we can finally see the model’s new elongated taillights.
The X7 will sit on the new CLAR platform that underpins the 5 Series and 7 Series as well as the upcoming X5. We expect to find six- and eight-cylinder engine options in this large crossover, and a V-12 may even be possible. Both gas and diesel versions will be available in addition to a plug-in hybrid variant. Heading upmarket but staying away from Rolls-Royce territory, the model will compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Range Rover.
BMW will produce the X7 in Spartanburg, South Carolina alongside the X3, X4, X5, and X6.
