BMW's X4 small SUV is getting a new range-topping model for 2016. The X4 M40i features a twin-turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine making 355 horsepower and 343 pounds-feet of torque; it's paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. BMW says the combination is good for a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.7 seconds, pretty quick for a compact SUV - excuse me, "sports activity coupe."

Underneath, the X4 M40i gets stiffer springs and reinforced stabilizers for better driving dynamics, while steering gets beefed up for better feedback, the automaker says. The electronically controlled dampers also get a special M tune for a more sporty feel, as does the software for the eight-speed automatic transmission.
All that power and control is put to the road through optional two-tone alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport performance tires. Other exterior styling extras include gray metallic accents on the front end and mirrors as well as a sport exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes.
Inside, the X4 M40i comes well equipped with an active suspension, bi-xenon headlights, LED fog lights, variable sport steering, front and rear parking sensors, sport seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and 19-inch M wheels. Real leather upholstery is standard, as is keyless entry and satellite radio. An exclusive new color, Long Beach Blue Metallic, is unique to the M40i, while the interior can be had in six colors with four trim options.
The new 2016 BMW X4 M40i will be available at dealerships starting in February 2016.
