Kia Announces Prices for 2016 Optima

Kia's redesigned 2016 Optima midsize sedan has new styling, slightly larger dimensions, a new turbocharged engine and prices that range from unchanged to nearly $2,000 over the 2015 model.

The Optima's price on the base LX trim is unchanged at $22,665; all prices include an $825 destination charge. It comes with a backup camera and power driver's seat as new standard features. The LX returns with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. Added to the lineup this year is the LX 1.6T with a new turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The LX 1.6T starts at $24,815. The EX model is $550 higher than last year at $25,715 and again comes with the 2.4-liter engine and six-speed automatic for 2016.

The SX and SXL models use a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and six-speed automatic from the previous generation. Base prices are an eye-popping $1,990 higher on the SX at $30,515 (compared to the 2015 Optima SX Turbo) and $290 higher on the SXL at $36,615. A new surround-view camera system is available on the SX and standard on the SXL. Both models have adaptive xenon high-intensity discharge headlights and a navigation system with an 8-inch display as standard. Navigation was optional on the SX last year, accounting for the big price increase for 2016.

Kia says all versions of the 2016 Optima should be available at dealerships by the end of October.
The previous Optima made a strong statement with its sporty styling. The new styling is an evolution of that look (Kia describes it as "mature"), and now it resembles the brand's larger, ritzier Cadenza and K900 sedans. Kia also has given the interior upscale-looking seats and trim, so the 2016 Optima aims to give midsize sedan buyers the impression they're moving up to a premium sedan.
