Enthusiasts will appreciate the automotive color of the 2016 Nurburgring 24 Hours, with high-performance wagons and crossovers dressed up as safety cars, medical cars, or official shuttles, operating not far from the racing action that surrounds us. About that, don’t miss Motor Trend OnDemand’s coverage here. And if you’re curious what the Nurburgring used this year for its cars around the track, head straight to the gallery by clicking on any of the photos below, from Audis we will never see in the U.S. to a Ram truck with a fun vinyl wrap, and a random Volkswagen Amarok I found because, why not?
Although this gallery only covers cars I happened to spot, it’s certainly not a complete list of the cars the ‘Ring uses. Seeing the new A4 Avant wagon next to the A6 Avant wagon made for a fun visual comparison, and it’s impossible to ignore the blue Volvo V60 Polestar. Also from the Hot Wagon department was an Opel Insignia OPC, but it was the complex wheel style of a regular, diesel Insignia wagon that really caught my eye.
Audi S and RS cars were everywhere, with a diesel-powered SQ5 crossover, at least two RS 6 wagons, and an RS 3 hatch. There was even an S1 with interesting red headlight accents.
As this story was being written, an Opel Antara crossover towed a BMW race car off the track.
Others included new Q7 diesels, a Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover and Ford Kuga medical cars. Open the gallery to see every photo, including a random Volkswagen Amarok and a Mercedes-Benz Actros big rig whose enormous grille and oversized Mercedes star must be seen in person to be believed.
Listen to one of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race cars pull out of the pits here:
