Dozens of Cars Damaged in Massive Sinkhole in Italy (W/Video)

Hey Corvette fans, there’s no need to panic. Another sinkhole has surfaced and swallowed a bunch of cars, but this time around it didn’t gobble up a bunch of rare, museum-quality Corvettes.

Earlier this week a leaking water pipe in Florence, Italy, caused a long section of road located on the edge of the Arno River to collapse. According to The New York Times, the massive sinkhole measures approximately 200 yards long, large enough to swallow dozens of cars. A few of the fallen cars include a Toyota Yaris, a Volkswagen Transporter van, a Range Rover Evoque, and a few Fiat Cinquecentos.

According to the report, the sinkhole was caused by a large water pipe burst beneath the road. The road collapsed during the early hours when roads and sidewalks were mostly empty. No injuries were reported. City officials believe the pipe failure was due to human error, since repair crews had reportedly worked on the pipe the night prior.

The sinkhole likely gave Corvette fans flashbacks to the devastation that occurred a few years ago at the National Corvette Museum. There, a massive sinkhole swallowed and damaged eight special Corvettes including a 2009 Corvette ZR1 and a 1962 model, both of which were restored.
