Looking for one of the 1,600 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Editions? There are quite a few available right now on eBay, most of them priced around $36,000. If you’re looking for the first car built of the 1,600, you’d better be willing to part with a hefty chunk of change, however. Final Edition #0001 is for sale at a Brooklyn, N.Y. dealer, with a price tag pegged at an eye-watering $88,888.
Looking at the online ad, it’s apparent this wasn’t a clerical error. The dealer apparently believes there is some Evo enthusiast desperate enough to have the very first serial issue of the Final Edition, that he or she would be willing to drop over double the original value on an outdated, rough-around-the-edges Mitsubishi sports sedan.
Of course, this is being a little unfair. Looking at past auction data from Barrett-Jackson reveals the first and the last run of a popular and iconic car always bring in a lot of cash. Still, we can’t help but think this is significantly overpriced, especially since this exact car was sold late last year at auction for just $46,200.
If you are the maniac who writes that heavy check, you’ll get what is probably the best Evo ever sold on these shores. To celebrate the end of Mitsubishi’s road-bound rally car, the Japanese automaker crammed this special edition full of go-fast bits. Underneath the hood beats the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, but the engine now spits out an additional 12 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque, rounding out at 303 hp and 305 lb-ft. The car is upgraded to Evo MR spec, with beefy Brembo brakes up front, Bilstein shocks, and stiff Eibach springs. Of course, “Final Edition” badges are shotgunned around the exterior and interior of the car, culminating in a snazzy number plaque just north of the shifter.
Check out the listing here before it is sold.
