The Force will once again be strong with San Diego Comic-Con, as Hot Wheels will debut a life-size race car inspired by the iconic X-wing fighter from “Star Wars.” Two years ago, Hot Wheels brought out a Darth Vader-inspired ride for the convention.
The car, called the X-wing Fighter Carship, recreates the starship’s fuselage over what appears to be an open-wheel race car’s body. The fighter makes do with only two of the four S-foils that give the X-wing its characteristic shape. They’re shorter than they are on the real deal, and are always locked in attack position. The cockpit is covered by a top-hinged canopy, which lends the show car its sleek look. For propulsion, the X-wing Carship relies on a 16-valve 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 of unknown make and output. At all four corners are AP Racing brake calipers, slotted brake rotors, and custom racing slicks.
The X-wing Carship may not be suited for an assault on the Death Star, but in the video below it looks like it could lay down a decent lap time at a race track. The show car is on display at Comic-Con this week, and will of course spawn a 1:64-scale die-cast version later this year.
