McLaren has confirmed an electric version of its P1 hypercar, but it’s not the record-breaking performance machine you’re probably expecting. The British sports car maker has unveiled a drivable toy version of the McLaren P1, complete with scissor doors and audio system.
The pint-sized P1 marks the first appearance of an open-top Spider variant, granting children ages 6 and younger unlimited headroom. McLaren’s distinctive dihedral doors lift up to grant access to the cabin, which accommodates one. The car also features push-button start, working headlights, an “air-conditioning” unit, and an MP3 audio system that comes pre-loaded with a playlist of popular nursery rhymes, including Hickory Dickory Dock. McLaren says the powertrain features three forward gears and one reverse gear. The automaker also estimates the tiny supercar can accelerate from 0 mph to top speed in just 2 seconds, though it doesn’t specify what top speed is.
The toddler-scale McLaren P1 is offered exclusively in Volcano Yellow, and will be available in late October, just in time for the holiday season, from McLaren dealers followed by select global toy retailers. Youngsters hoping to get a McLaren as a gift should be extra-good until December, as the P1 carries an MSRP of £375 (roughly $486).
