We’ve arrived at the end of Best Driver’s Car Week 2016, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time for the sixth installment of the World’s Greatest Drag Race. By now you already know which car we named Best Driver’s Car, but you don’t know which of the 12 contenders is fastest in the quarter mile. That’s why we stage this multi-car drag race every year. Well, mostly for science but also to break the internet. If you just want to cut to the chase, scroll down and watch the video below. For everyone else, here’s a rundown of this year’s top contenders.
Senior features editor Jonny Lieberman starts things off by introducing the car he thinks has the best chance of winning, the 2017 Acura NSX. With its three electric motors and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 producing a combined 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque and driving all four wheels, he might be right. But take a look at the rest of the field. We have the Audi R8 V10 Plus, the quickest naturally aspirated car we’ve ever tested, which also boasts all-wheel drive but uses a 602-hp, 413-lb-ft 5.2-liter V-10 for motivation. Then there’s the Nissan GT-R, a two-time WGDR winner, with its 565-hp, 467-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 and advanced all-wheel drive system. Also in the running are rear-drive powerhouses like the McLaren 570S with its 562-hp, 443-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8; last year’s BDC winner the Mercedes-AMG GT S with its 503-hp, 479-lb-ft twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8; and the Dodge Viper ACR with its 645-hp, 600-lb-ft 8.4-liter V-10.
Of course, there’s also the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Porsche 911, BMW M4 GTS, Jaguar F-Type SVR, Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, and a surprise guest that could throw a wrench into the finishing order. Who will win World’s Greatest Drag Race 6? Find out below.
