Lexus has revealed the interior of its UX Concept ahead of the SUV’s debut next week in Paris.
Almost every component inside the UX pops out thanks to the interior’s multi-layered design. On the center console, a crystal structure houses a hologram display for A/C and infotainment functions. Gear select switches are located on the side of this unit.
The Lexus UX Concept doesn’t have conventional side mirrors, but rather “e-cameras” that simulate the view outside the car. You’ll also notice a removable sound bar built into the passenger side of the dashboard. The same “fin motif” is repeated on the car’s A-pillars, which contrast the sleek electro-chromatic windows.
“Our brief was to create a new genre of compact crossover; a vehicle that could create something unique from a customer’s point of view—an innovative, three-dimensional, fully immersive user experience,” said Stephan Rasmussen, designer at Lexus’ European Design Centre, ED2.
Judging from the SUV’s exterior, which was revealed earlier this month, the UX looks small enough to slot below the Lexus NX. Should it receive the green light for production, it’ll likely ride on the Toyota New Global Architecture that also underpins the Toyota C-HR small crossover. Many say the UX will replace the CT 200h hatchback, which has seen its sales suffer as it continues to age.
We’ll learn more when the Lexus UX Concept debuts September 29 at the Paris Motor Show.
