If you’re looking for a midsize truck that can handle all the desert running and rock crawling you throw at it, you’ll have a hard time finding anything more capable than the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. In fact, it proved such a capable off-roader in our first drive, that we took it up the Trans-Labrador Highway for a three-way competition with the Ford F-150 Raptor and the Ram 2500 Power Wagon. Without spoiling the winner, let’s just say the ZR2 more than held its own.
For this year’s annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show, Chevrolet decided to take the already hardcore ZR2 and introduce two special editions: the Midnight and Dusk Editions. The Midnight Edition gets black paint, a black Chevrolet bowtie, 17-inch black wheels, a sport bar, and LED lighting. The Dusk Edition gets everything the Midnight Edition gets, except it’s available in whatever color you want.
At the show, the ZR2 Midnight Edition will be displayed with the 3.6-liter gasoline V-6 along with several other options like a bed-mounted spare tire carrier, a performance air intake, a performance exhaust, and ZR2-branded all-weather floormats (fancy!). The ZR2 Dusk Edition will be shown in white. It will get the 2.8-liter turbodiesel and will be equipped with an optional diesel-specific cold-air intake.
Both trucks will be shown alongside about 20 other customized Chevrolet models starting October 31 and going through November 3.
