Ford Recalls 1.3 Million F-Series Pickups to Fix Faulty Door Latches

Ford has issued a recall for approximately 1.3 million pickup trucks because frozen latches may keep the door from opening or closing properly.

The Problem: Frozen door latches, as well as bent or kinked actuation cables, may cause the door not to open or close properly. Under these conditions, owners may still be able to close the door, but the latch may not fully engage. This increases the chance that the door may open unexpectedly while on the road. At this time, Ford says it’s not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.

The recall affects 2015-2017 model-year F-150s that were built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant between March 12, 2014 and December 31, 2016, as well as ones built at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant between August 11, 2014 and December 30, 2016. Model-year 2017 Super Duty trucks built at the Kentucky Assembly Plant between October 8, 2015 and September 1, 2016 are also included.

The Fix: Ford dealers will install water shields over the door latches and inspect the latch actuation cables for damage. If the cables are bent, the dealer will fix them. The reference number for this recall is 17S33.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Ford says the recall involves about 1,344,605 trucks in North America. In the U.S., approximately 1,101,107 trucks are affected, with 222,408 more in Canada and an additional 21,090 in Mexico.
