Could Audi A4, A6 Avant Wagons Return to the U.S.?

Although Audi has remained noncommittal on the idea of an Avant wagon coming to the U.S., a new post on social media gives us a glimmer of hope that these cars could still come Stateside.

On Twitter yesterday, Audi used the summoning circle meme to hint at Avant wagons for the U.S. The automaker tweeted a circle of candles around “Avants in the U.S.”

Of course, this tweet alone is no indication the wagons will come our way. But a year ago, Audi told us it hasn’t ruled out the possibility of selling RS Avant wagons in the U.S. “We always look at potential new opportunities in the market. It’s a niche to explore,” Filip Brabec, vice president of product management for Audi of America, told us last March. “We keep holding discussions. Keep writing us letters.”

We miss the Audi A4 Avant that disappeared from the U.S. after the 2012 model year, but we’re also fond of the current A4 Allroad. Although the RS 5 Sportback is technically a four-door hatchback, it’s another good alternative that we’ve deemed a “civilized family vehicle when you need it to be, and a rip-snorting supercar when you want it to be.”

We’ve reached out to the folks at Audi to see if they have anything to add on their intentions of bringing Avants to the U.S.
