After redesigning the F-150 for 2015 and the Super Duty for 2017, Ford gave its best-seller a mid-cycle refresh for 2018. Then, early last month, Ford showed off its updated 2020 Super Duty. Today, Ford completed its overhaul of the F-Series lineup by announcing multiple 2020 and 2021 commercial vehicles.
First up is the F-600 Super Duty, a chassis cab that (as the name suggests) slots between the F-550 and F-650. Ford says it was added to the lineup to give customers Class 6 capability in a smaller Class 5 package. So you still get a gross vehicle weight rating of 22,000 pounds but without the size of the F-650. Ford also updated the Transit commercial van, the rest of its Super Duty chassis cab lineup, its medium-duty trucks, and even the E-Series.
Those updates include adding several driver-assist features. Automatic emergency braking is now standard on both the Transit and Transit Connect, as well as an option on the rest of Ford’s commercial vehicles. The F-650, F-750, E-Series, and both stripped chassis get traction control, hill start assist, and automatic headlights standard, with other features such as adaptive cruise control, stability control, and lane departure warning available as options. The F-650, F-750, and E-Series also get updated cabins with new standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity and USB ports.
The 7.3-liter V-8 that we first saw on the 2020 Super Duty isn’t offered on the Transit, but it is available on the rest of the commercial lineup. Ford hasn’t released horsepower and torque figures, but expect a big improvement over the V-10 it replaces.
