Do you remember the Lagonda Vision Concept coupe that made its debut at last year’s Geneva motor show? Well, Aston Martin’s luxury brand is back with an All-Terrain Concept that looks like a cross between a futuristic hearse and a luxury SUV. We’re still deciding if we’re into this concept or not, but we like that Aston is taking big design risks with its electrified Lagonda brand.
Lagonda production is expected to jumpstart in St. Athan, Wales, in 2022 and its new concept will showcase the latest electrification and autonomous driving technologies according to the marque. The luxury all-terrain vehicle is designed to take its occupants from diverse locations such as a red carpet event to a remote scientific research lab. Can’t you just see it cruising to the Scottish Highlands or maybe even a lunar or martian landscape?
The Concorde inspired the Vision Concept and a superyacht was the inspiration for the All-Terrain Concept, according to Lagonda. Batteries are stored in the floor and the luxe SUV has a rear-hinged back door with sections of the roof that open upwards for easier access. Around back there’s a wild clamshell rear hatch with hidden LEDs for illumination.
There’s also a rear shelf that slides out from the floor to let passengers stand on so they can survey the landscape easier. The four-seater’s cabin aims to provide a rear-seat-biased limousine experience, and the interior sports cashmere trim instead of Alcantara. The front seats are designed to rotate so they can face the rear occupants during its autonomous mode. And in order to start the concept, Lagonda plans to make a key that will employ electromagnets so that the key will float between the front seats when it is placed in the operating position. Now that’s sure to impress your friends when you pick them up on the red carpet.
