When the Shanghai auto show kicks off later this month, expect most of the cars to be Chinese-market exclusives. There will probably be several supercars and all sorts of electric cars, but odds are, only a few will make it to the U.S. That said, we will be paying close attention to the Chevrolet booth where the new Trailblazer and Tracker will be revealed.
From what we’ve heard, the Tracker will be the less exciting of the two. As a subcompact crossover, it should be about the same size as the uninspiring Trax that Chevrolet sells here. Since the Trax has been in production since the 2013 model year (even though it didn’t come to the U.S. until 2015), it’s due for a redesign soon. That means it’s possible the Tracker previews the next-generation Trax, even if there are no guarantees we’ll get the same powertrains or options packages.
What’s more interesting is the other SUV that Chevrolet plans to reveal at the Shanghai auto show—the Trailblazer. There isn’t much to see in the image shown above, but the design of the crossover on the left is clearly related to the current Blazer. But will it be a smaller, more off-road-ready CUV that slots under the Blazer? Or will it simply revive the name?
All we know is what we heard at the Detroit auto show in January. Chevrolet plans to bring back the Trailblazer name on a small crossover that will slot between the Equinox and the Trax. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait for the official reveal on April 16.
