Volkswagen Previews All-Electric Full-Size SUV

Volkswagen is gearing up to introduce yet another entry in its ID range of electric vehicles. Debuting at the Shanghai auto show later this month, the Volkswagen ID Roomzz is our first look at a future electric full-size SUV from the brand.

The concept vehicle will feature a customizable interior with “completely new seat configurations,” the automaker says. Like other ID vehicles, it will sit on Volkswagen’s MEB platform for electric vehicles. It is capable of Level 4 autonomy, which the SAE defines as being able to operate without human oversight under certain conditions.

Two years ago in Shanghai, VW debuted the smaller ID Crozz crossover concept. A vehicle based on this model is headed to the U.S. in 2020, and it will be the first ID model to arrive on our shores. Other members of the ID family include an electric small hatch, a van seen as a reinterpretation of the Microbus, a family sedan, and even a dune buggy.

VW says it will bring a version of the full-size SUV concept to market, but we don’t know if it will make its way to the U.S. The SUV will launch in China in 2021.

Auto Shanghai runs from April 16 to April 24.
