The recent season of “Top Gear” hasn’t gone too well as far as ratings and projected viewership go, and the chemistry between co-hosts Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc may be souring. According to a new report from British outlet The Telegraph, LeBlanc plans to quit hosting the show if Evans isn’t removed first. Reports from sources close to the show have also said that Evans is frustrating and rude on-set.
Viewer numbers have declined compared to previous seasons under the old regime, as the latest episode received only 2.34 million viewers. That’s below the previous record low of 2.36 million set in June 2003. Another source told the Sun on Sunday that the team doesn’t click well and the presenters’ relationship is less than chummy. Other hosts aren’t very happy either, apparently.
Representatives for both LeBlanc and the BBC didn’t provide comment to The Telegraph. Ever since its relaunch with new hosts, “Top Gear” has been hit with a series of controversies, including the resignation of Lisa Clark, the show’s executive producer. She claimed Evans was “tyrannical” and even allegedly said that he could “trample over everyone,” according to one of The Telegraph’s sources. Evans’ representatives have also not replied to The Telegraph’s request for comment.
It’s important to keep in mind, however, that the British press is known to run a little wild with “Top Gear” rumors. Clearly, things are not going perfectly according to plan over at the BBC hit show, but it’s generally best to take these rumors with some healthy skepticism.
